Date: 9th December 2009

Time: 5.30pm - 7.30pm (registration from 5.15pm)

Venue: The Royal College of Surgeons of England, London

This year's lecture is being held on 9th December which is the 100 year anniversary of the formation of the trade association for the natural stone industry; originally called the London Association of Master Stonemasons and now known as Stone Federation Great Britain.

We have decided to celebrate this momentous occasion by reflecting on how the use of natural stone has developed over the past 100 years. We will be including lectures detailing past and present practices, given by eminent authorities from within the industry. It is our aim that by sharing and bearing witness to days long past we can learn of and add to the heritage and history in our country by using natural stone today.

Stone Federation Technical Advisor, John Bysouth will be chairing the lecture, which is now in its 35th year, and speaking about how the Federation was formed in 1909. Neven Sidor, Partner at Grimshaw Architects, will be speaking about how stone is used today. Since joining Grimshaw in 1981, Neven has been responsible for 14 major completed projects, and he will be sharing some of these with you. Neven believes in the spirit of exploration; to follow a chain of rational decisions and see where that leads you in terms of design.

As part of this event, Stone Federation will be publishing a full colour brochure comparing events and news from 1909 and now, and you will see how nothing has really changed!

Last year the lecture was attended by an audience of over 120 including architects, contractors, surveyors, designers and clients.

If you would like to attend please email sandra@stonefed.org.uk with your ticket requirements and the names of those who wish to attend, no later than 5pm Monday 7th December.

Members of the Federation are invited to exhibit at the event (please contact us for details).

In the current economic climate you don't get much for free.  Due to generous sponsorship, we are again pleased to be able to announce that this year's lecture is free of charge.
